The Dwelling Place’s Independent Living Program provides a safe, stable, family-oriented home for young adults ages 18–21 aging out of foster care, equipping them with life skills, emotional support, spiritual encouragement, and practical guidance as they move toward long-term, independent housing.

The House Parent is central to creating a home where residents feel supported, valued, and prepared for adulthood.

•Maintain a safe, welcoming home; foster respect, accountability, and healthy communication among residents.

• Teach and model practical life skills — cleaning, laundry, cooking/meal prep, grocery shopping, and time management— while encouraging shared household responsibility.

• Conduct weekly one-on-one check-ins; monitor residents’ well-being and progress, offering guidance and support within appropriate boundaries.

• Communicate resident needs or incidents to program leadership; meet monthly in person with the Mentor and maintain weekly communication on resident progress.

• Facilitate devotion/reflection time and family-style meals that build a home culture centered on hope, growth, and purpose.

• Maintain required documentation of participation, incidents, and check-ins, and uphold household and program guidelines.

• Passion for serving young adults transitioning out of foster care, with strong interpersonal, mentoring, and conflict-resolution skills.

• Experience mentoring, coaching, parenting, or counseling youth preferred.

• Emotionally mature, patient, and organized, with the ability to lead with empathy, consistency, and accountability while maintaining professional boundaries.

• Must pass all required background checks; CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

• Must be a practicing Christian with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, in agreement with the Baptist faith and doctrinal beliefs of the church overseeing The Dwelling Place, and attend a Baptist church consistently.

• Must demonstrate a lifestyle of biblical character, integrity, humility, and servant leadership.

• Must maintain full-time employment outside the home throughout the live-in term.

Live-in position within the independent living home.

• Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and on-call support as needed.

• Requires professionalism, confidentiality, and consistency, including the ability to respond calmly during conflict or crisis.
