I have worn many hats in my lifetime; daughter, sister, wife, mother, teacher, administrative assistant and daughter of the King. It was in the fall of 1963 at an evening church service that I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior. My life has never been the same. Although church was not a constant for me growing up I continuously felt Him drawing me to Him in my young adult years. A native of McDowell County I attended Western Carolina University and graduated with a BS in Elementary Education and later a Master’s in Early Childhood Education. Following graduation I married my husband Joe (a retired chef and culinary instructor) and we have three adult children; Leslie, who teaches at McDowell High and is the Preschool Director for Grace, Elizabeth (husband Barron), who teaches third grade and lives in Waynesville, and Ethan (wife Sarah), who is pastor of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church here in Marion. We have six beautiful grandchildren Eleck, Cora Jo, Simeon, Evangeline, Molly Ann, and Elliot.
After having taught public school for 37 years, I retired and accepted a position at Grace as Administration Assistant which to this day is a “God Story”. As I tell many people on many occasions “I love my job”.
